Check If Your Lawn Needs Water
Before watering, check to see if your lawn really needs it. Walk over the grass, and if your footprint doesn’t disappear right after, this means the blades of grass don’t have enough moisture to help them spring back up, and they would benefit from watering.
Watering At The Right Time
It may seem like watering your lawn offers the same results at any time of day, but this is not true. Watering your grass early in the morning (before 10 a.m.) is ideal since the temperature is cooler, helping the water soak into the soil before it evaporates in the hot sun. If you prefer to water later in the day, try getting it done in the early evening (between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.) to give the blades of grass time to dry before nightfall.
Use Enough Water (But Don’t Overdo It)
For optimal water of an established lawn, it’s recommended to water as much as needed for the top six to eight inches of soil to be wet. This amounts to about one to one and a half inches of water per week from water or rain. This watering can occur all at once or split up throughout the week. Keep in mind not to overwater either, as it can cause complications.
Check If You’ve Watered Enough
If you want to check that your grass has been thoroughly watered, a screwdriver can help. If you can easily stick the screwdriver six inches into your soil, your lawn needs water.
