5 Ways to Allergy-Proof Your Yard

The changing of the seasons brings us some beautiful weather and some unpleasant allergy symptoms too. If you or someone you love lives with asthma or allergies, avoiding triggers can seem like a daily battle. Luckily, there are many ways in which you can allergy-proof your yard so that a day of sunshine does not have to be avoided:

1. Mow Your Lawn Consistently 

Keeping your lawn short and free of weeds will help reduce the amount of pollen build-up on your grass. A long and weed-filled yard can increase allergens and leave you itchy and sneezing all summer long.

2. Avoid Mold Build Up 

Another common allergy trigger, mold feeds on damp areas, and can often build up around your trash cans and pool area. Keep an eye out for lurking water or any spots of mold living on your 

3. Cover Up

If you plan on gardening this spring season, make sure you are dressed appropriately! Use gardening gloves or a face mask if you are sensitive to pollen. If your skin gets irritated easily as well, consider gardening while wearing some long sleeves and pants. Don’t forget to take off your shoes and change outfits after you’re done, to avoid tracking your outdoor allergens in.

4. Manage Your Time

There are certain days and times when pollen count becomes even higher than usual. Avoid doing any of these tips on breezy, dry afternoons. It’s best to wait until later in the day to start your lawn maintenance. Rain can even help reduce pollen count, so start your gardening after it rains.

5. Keep Up With Landscape Maintenance
