What You Need For Awesome Patio Parties

There’s no better way to celebrate life (or any special occasion) than doing it right on your back patio, surrounded by friends and family.

And with summer on its way, there’s going to be a lot of parties and get-togethers that will be had — all of which should be enjoyed outside in the warm weather, on the patio.

In order to throw the best patio party you’ve ever thrown, there’s going to be a few things you need.

1. An Awesome Patio

Obviously, the first thing on this list is going to be the patio itself. Sure, you might have a patio already, but is it big enough to hold all of your guests?

Depending on the size of your property, you may want to consider making the patio even bigger. Some people don’t need a large patio because they don’t spend enough time on it (or they like having a bigger lawn and garden), but if you’re looking to host more gatherings — a bigger patio (or a redesigned one) might be necessary.

2. Seating for Everyone

It’s one thing to have a patio big enough to hold everyone, but does everyone have a place to sit? Patio parties should be fun AND relaxing, so make sure you have more than enough seating.

• If you have a large patio and not enough seating, invest in some outdoor couches.
• If you have an outdoor bar, invest in more high-top stools.
• If you have a fire pit, invest in some chairs to place around it.
• For all of the extra seating for those really big parties, invest in folding chairs you can keep in storage (or rent them just for the party).

3. Lighting and Ambiance

Sure, parties during the day and under the sun are a fun time — especially when there’s a pool next to the patio. But a lot of the time, these daytime parties will keep going after the sun has set. Which means your patio will need to have the appropriate lighting to keep the party going (or if you’re only having people over in the nighttime).

Some options to light up your yard include lights built into the patio itself around the perimeter, lights on the side of the house pointing down toward the patio, landscape lighting at the edge of the patio, and even string lights that are hung over the patio.

Be sure to have enough light where you can see someone’s face from a few feet away.
