New Year Maintenance Schedule
January 9, 2020
With the new year finally here, it’s time to think about your home in a different way — and we mean just a little bit more than something that keeps you warm during the freezing portion of the year. Instead of waiting until spring hits to do some actual work, spend an hour or so this weekend and plan to do something a bit different — and rewarding!
Roof/Gutters
As long as the ground isn’t icy, grab a friend and a ladder, and inspect the first thing the weather hits at home — the roof! Taking most of the beating, these shingles are providing shelter and security to the inside of your home, so it’s important to make sure they’re working properly. Additionally, checking your gutters before the spring for any clogs or blockages is a great way to avoid any excess water poolage or flooding once things thaw out and mother nature dumps water everywhere.
Pavers
Checking on the health of your pavers is certainly something to keep on the top of your list for a few reasons. If it’s on your driveway, the reality of a few thousand pounds resting on top (vehicles) can alter the way they’re sitting. Additionally, this plus age and the weather can cause cracking, separation of pavers, and other things that can otherwise lead to problems down the line. Inspect these areas and if there’s an issue, try fixing it yourself or give your installer a call to be able to.
Indoors!
With most of your time spent indoors anyway, it’s important to keep it as clean as possible on a regular basis. Try cleaning specific rooms once per day, and tracking the dirt, ice, debris that comes through the doors. With all of these steps taken, you should experience a much more pleasurable place to lounge while it’s cold, while you prepare to enjoy the outdoors in a few short months!
