The Lawn Tools You Need to Take Care of Fall Cleanup
November 2, 2018
As a homeowner, are you equipped to handle the maintenance of your lawn — especially during the fall?
Fall cleanup and maintenance is necessary to ensure your lawn can enter the dormancy stage safely, allowing your lawn to flourish next spring.
Here’s a list of lawn tools you’ll need to get the job done!
The Lawn Tools Every Homeowner Should Have
A Lawnmower With a Mulching Mode
Throughout the fall, it’s critical that you continue mowing your lawn. Just because the temperature drops a bit and the leaves start falling, doesn’t mean it doesn’t need to be mowed. Ideally, you should be mowing your lawn until the end of fall when winter is within reach (AKA when the grass finally stops growing).
This lawnmower of yours should also have a mulching mode that will allow you to shred up the fallen leaves. Yes, you can put the rake down and stop raking the leaves. Instead, you can mulch the leaves with your lawnmower and allow the pieces to break down back into the soil.
Doing this is actually better than raking the leaves. However, it is critical that you either mulch the leaves or rake them because leaving them to cover your lawn completely can result in lawn disease that can kill your grass altogether.
A Legitimate Leaf Blower
For those that don’t want to invest in a new lawnmower equipped with a mulching mode, you’re still going to need to find a way to remove the fallen leaves from your lawn. Rather than reaching for a rake, opt for a leaf blower.
Leaf blowers are essential for removing leaves from your property in an efficient manner (without the sore back afterward). You can move leaves into the nearby woods or create piles for an easy and clean pickup.
The Perfect Pruning Tools
First off, not all plants should be pruned during the fall. Now, with that being said, there are some plants that need to be pruned during the fall. Mostly, plants with dead limbs should have those limbs removed.
For smaller plants, you can simply purchase a pair of pruning shears. Simple as that. However, for large plants like trees and large shrubbery, you may want to invest in an electric lopper. This will tool will allow you to cut branches that are thicker (larger than 4 inches in diameter) with ease.
