Stagnant water has an increased growth rate of microorganisms. This creates a dirty-looking water that’s FILLED with a type of mold growth. This smelly and ugly looking water can also be harmful if someone were to be near it (or in it) for extended periods of time.

2) The Bug Population Decreases

Flies, gnats, wasps, and many other bugs live in environments near a water source, as they drink from the water and feed off of the microorganisms. A fountain that keeps the water moving would greatly decrease the number of bugs on your property.

Most importantly — mosquitoes.

These blood-sucking pests don’t just like water, they use standing water as a breeding ground. Mosquitoes will lay their eggs in stagnant water, multiplying the number of these annoying pests. When the water keeps moving, mosquitoes won’t be able to lay their eggs here.

3) There’s Value in Relaxation

Adding a fountain to a backyard water source adds to the relaxation factor of your backyard. Laying on the patio with a drink in your hand and your eyes closed as you listen to the peaceful movement of the water.

Fountains also seriously increase the curb appeal of your property. A water source is nice to look at, but a water source with a fountain adds the extra touch it needs for it to be magnificent. Not to mention the additional landscape lighting you could add around the fountain for a spectacular view during the nighttime.
