1. Check the forecast.

Believe it or not, there is ideal weather in which to clean your exterior brick. If it’s too hot or sunny, the solvent can quickly dry and leave stains. A cloudy mid-temperature day would be the perfect condition.

The solvent you use to clean the brick can potentially damage other surfaces such as metal, wood, or glass or fixtures such as lights, plants, or windows. So, it’s best to be safe and use a tarp or other covering to avoid any unwanted damage.  

1. Make the brick wet.

Dry brick absorbs any solvent too quickly, so wetting the brick with your hose just before applying is the best practice. As well, be sure to wash off any dirt and grime stuck to the surface before starting your deep cleaning.

1. Apply your solvent.

There are various solvents you can use to wash your brick so it looks like new. There are different cleaning solutions available at your local stores, or you can make one of your own. If you’re trying to get rid of moss, mold, and mildew, be sure to use a bleach solution. For simple cleaning, soap and vinegar solutions should do the trick. If you’re dealing with rust, a solution with muriatic acid is the right choice, but be sure you’re wearing full safety gear.  

1. Utilize a pressure washer.

Pressure washers are great for washing off your brick but proceed with caution. Too much pressure can cause damage, so keep the damage to a maximum of 3,000 pounds per square inch.
