Water fixtures in your home look awesome — they’re decorative, tasteful, and sometimes include fish!
Most people who own or lust for this type of fixture often overlook the amount of effort needed to maintain them. Because of this, they can get dirty, and be a breeding ground for bugs.
Fortunately, there are a few ways to prevent this from happening.
- If you have plants near your pond, make sure you’re fertilizing the plants around it! This should be done every 3-4 weeks, to ensure a healthy lifespan.
- Remove any dead foliage. As plant leaves die and fall off, they can sometimes get trapped in the pond, which can break down, turn into debris, and make the pond look bad. By skimming the water, you’re promoting longer life.
- Use bacterial products to keep the water clean. Products like Microbe-lift are typically great for smaller ponds and are usually healthy for fish.
- If you have fish in the pond, keep them well fed, and maximize the aeration. Fish need oxygen found in the water, which is less abundant in warmer water. An air pump can do wonders and keep your fish alive all year!
