With warmer weather rapidly approaching, one thing is certain — bugs will follow.
As much as we try, we can only do so much to prevent them from coming. Unless you enjoy the presence of pesky bites and buzzing noises near you all season, you might want to take some notes!
The tips below will help you create homemade bug repellent to use year round.
Apple Cider Vinegar Mix
With a large bottle of vinegar, (16oz) add 1 TBSP of Sage, Rosemary, Thyme, and Mint. Cap the bottle and allow this mixture to sit for two weeks. Upon the completion, strain the herbs from the bottle and transfer into a spray bottle, filling it to about half full. Add water to fill entirely and shake to mix. This powerful concoction will deter every bug in sight! It’s also a great antiviral/antibacterial if you’re sick.
Lemon Sunflower Mix
This, though simple is a great way to repel flying bugs and mosquitos. Combine 1 part lemon eucalyptus oil for every 10 parts sunflower oil. Shake to combine ingredients and rub or spray a small layer on your skin. This is great for keeping your skin free of pesky red bites.
Lavender Vanilla Repellent
Arguably one of the best smelling repellents is this one. Add 15 drops of lavender oil to a ¼ cup of lemon juice. Add 3-4 TBSP of vanilla extract, and place in spray bottle. Fill the rest of the spray bottle with distilled water and mix to combine. This can be sprayed on your skin or clothing and smells great (to you, at least).
With these repellents, you, your family & friends can enjoy your landscape and the outdoors without feeling like a bug is near!
